Discipline Policy

STUDENT DISCIPLINE CODE

The UNIFORM DISCIPLINE CODE is the system wide standard for the CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Students, parents, guardians, teachers, and principals have rights and responsibilities under this code and are guided by its policies and procedures.

A. Students are expected to:

  1. Wear uniforms- white tops (no logos); black bottoms
  2. Be in 1st period class at 7:45AM and on time for all other classes. The school door closes at 8:00AM. After 8:00 AM a student must be accompanied by a parent.
  3. Wear ID's at all times, and display to any school staff member upon request
  4. Follow authorized directions on entering and leaving the building and adhere to the closed campus schedule. Lockers may be entered once after Division and after the last class period
  5. Observe the rules of good conduct while in and around the building, during fire or disaster drills
  6. Appear with a parent for conferences scheduled by any teacher, attendance, or Discipline Offices

B. Students are not to:

  1. Be in the possession, deliver, or use alcohol, narcotics, illegal drugs or contraband
  2. Harass or intimidate other students regarding gang activities ("flashing" or display, clothing, insignias)
  3. Wear or bring gang clothing, radios, sunglasses, earrings, nose rings, brow rings, hair nets (boys) or beepers
  4. Be in the possession of markers or any materials used for defacing school property or vandalism
  5. Smoke on school grounds or premises
  6. Kiss, hug, or engage in inappropriate physical contact in school.
  7. Trespass (be in building while serving out of school suspension). Students will be subject to arrest.

C. A student may be subject to a parent conference, suspension, police arrest, disciplinary re-assignment and/or expulsion based on the severity of the acts of misconduct. The following include some of the areas in which disciplinary actions will be taken:

  1. ATHLETIC CONTESTS and FIELD TRIPS- students may be excluded from participation and attendance at remaining events for misconduct.
  2. AUDITORIUM and ASSEMBLY PROGRAMS -students may be subject to ejection and possible arrest and/or suspension
  3. CLASSES-students who fight, cut classes, loiter, are tardy, or fail to serve detentions or to follow school rules are subject to discipline
  4. FIRE ALARMS-violators will be arrested and suspended
  5. GRAFFITI- $ 25 fine, clean up vandalized area, suspension (10 days + 30 hours community service)
  6. LUNCHROOMS-students who fight, butt lines, gamble, or create disorder are subject to discipline
  7. STAFF-students involved in incidents including disrespect and/or defying the authority of school personnel are subject to discipline
